.
June 1995 was the beginning of a long journey... It was then that the doors of Perry's Tae Kwon Do, owned by Mr. Jeff Hart, opened it's doors on Ryder Street and it was then that Thomas DeWitt began his career as a martial artist. In the spring of 1997, the school became Hart's Tae Kwon Do and Self Defense Academy, founded by Mr. Jeff Hart and Mr. Doug Millburg. After several years serving the Litchfield area, the school closed it's doors. However, this did not squelch Thomas' love of martial arts and he began envisioning opening his own school one day. In March 2004, that dream came true. Thomas and his wife, Shelley, purchased the building at 402 W. St John, which was formerly known as Eli's Billiards. Through a LOT of hard work, dedication, a little blood, a lot of sweat and yes, a few tears, the couple completely renovated the building within a month and opened the doors to their school on April 26, 2004. Although this was their venture and solely under their ownership, the couple opted to name their school after the former tae kwon do school, in hopes the name would be recognized. Thus, the new era of Hart's Tae Kwon Do had begun. By this time, Mr. Jeff Hart had become a Master of the art and the couple was operating their school under his guidance. 2006 marked the beginning of another era. After 2 1/2 years operating as Hart's Tae Kwon Do and Self Defense Academy, the couple was ready to rename their school. Thus the school is now known as Silent Warrior Self Defense Acadamy. The school is still located at 402 W. St John(across from the Skate Zone.) Mr. DeWitt is a proud life long resident of Litchfield and is honored to share what he has learned with the citizens of our community as well as with the citizens of surrounding communities. |
